Ruth Marie, daughter of Dr. James Milner and Zinita Dickman Murphy, was born May 20, 1923, at Sumner, Iowa. She was baptized December 25, 1923, and confirmed in 1933, at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Sumner. Ruth graduated from Sumner High School in 1940, attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. Upon graduation from nursing school, Ruth was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps and possibly would have served overseas had the war not ended. She was employed at University Hospitals in Iowa City when she met Richard C. Haw, and the couple married June 8, 1950, at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Sumner. While Richard completed his D.D.S. at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, Ruth continued as an employee at University Hospitals. Ruth and Dr. Haw have been residents of Sumner since 1955. Ruth has been an active member of the United Methodist Church in Sumner, P.E.O. and the O.E.S. Ruth volunteered her time in many organizations over the years, but her most treasured time was spent with her family.
In addition to her husband, Dr. Richard C. Haw of Cresco, formerly of Sumner, she is survived by two children, Becky (Mark) Bohle and Dr. Jeffrey (Shirlee) Haw, all of Cresco; grandchildren, Phillip Bohle, Meghan (Robert) Ringoen, Katelyn (Kyle) Lensch, Tim Haw, and Ashley Haw; one great grandson, Jameson Ringoen, one sister, Marian Topp of Harlingen, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Ruth was eagerly awaiting the addition of three great grandchildren this summer.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Dr. Robert Murphy.
